Independence Square Buildings

The buildings in the Independence Square security area include Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and the Great Essentials Exhibit in the West Wing. Access to the Square is through a security entrance located on the south side of Independence Hall. Visitors can access the security entrance using the stairs or accessibility ramp on 5th Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets. Security screening closes at least 15 minutes prior to the building closing times.

Independence Hall

• Temporarily closed for preservation projects. Independence Hall will reopen January 29,2026.

Congress Hall

• Open house 9:00 am–5:00 pm
• Senate (second floor) closes at 4:00 pm

America's National Park Store in the East Wing

• Open daily, 9:30 am–4:30 pm

 

Old City Hall

• Supreme Court Chamber in Old City Hall
  Open daily 9:00 am–5:00 pm
• America's National Parks Store in Old City Hall
  Open daily 10:00 am–4:00 pm (staff permitting)

 

Franklin Court Buildings

The Franklin Court complex includes the Benjamin Franklin Museum, the Franklin Court Printing Office, the B. Free Franklin branch of the US Post Office, and America's National Park Store in the Benjamin Franklin Museum.

Benjamin Franklin Museum

• Open daily 9:00 am–5:00 pm

Franklin Court Printing Office & Bindery

• Open Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am–5:00 pm. Last printing demonstration at 4:30 pm.

B. Free Franklin branch of the U.S. Post Office

• Open Monday thru Saturday 9:00 am–12:45 pm and 2:00 pm–5:00 pm (staffing permitting)

America's National Park Store in the Benjamin Franklin Museum

• Open daily 9:00 am–5:00 pm

 

Carpenters' Hall

Open Wednesday thru Sunday, 10:00 am–4:00 pm
