2023 Fire Updates

Restrictions/Notices

  • Stage I Fire Restrictions are in place. The following acts are prohibited:
    • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire except within a developed recreation site, or improved site.
    • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Roads

  • Lost Man Road is closed at Highway 101 including picnic area and entire trail due to wildfire.
  • Highway 199: One-way controlled traffic at various locations from 3 mi south of Patrick Creek to 2.9 mi south of the Oregon State Line (Del Norte Co) from 4:00 pm each afternoon to 8:00 am each morning and from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday thru Friday. And from Friday at 4:00 pm thru 8:00 am on Monday. - Due to emergency repairs - Motorists should expect delays of up to 1 hour.
    • Highway 199 is closed from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday - Due to emergency repairs - Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
  • For up-to-date road conditions, please check CalTrans at Road Conditions (ca.gov). Do not rely on Google Maps for alternate routes or updated road conditions.

Facilities/Area Information

  • Lost Man Road, Picnic Area and Trail are closed.
  • Upper Lost Man Watershed – Area of active fire suppression activities bounded by Little Lost Man Creek, Larry Damm Creek to B-line North road to Holter Ridge Road junction to Bald Hill Road – is closed.

A section of the multi-use trail along West Branch Road, west of Rock Creek Road, is closed temporarily due to a failed bridge crossing.
Tall Trees Access Road Open Access from Bald Hills Road Reservations required for access.
Cal-Barrel Road Open Sunrise-Sunset daily Access from US 101 Open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Great spot for walking with your leashed pets.
