Should you make a reservation for the campgrounds? YES!

Campgrounds at Redwood National and State Parks are extremely popular and may be completely full at any time of year. Reservations are strongly recommended!

Beginning January 1, 2020, all sites at Gold Bluffs Beach Campground and Elk Prairie Campground will be reservable on a year-round basis; on May 1, 2020, all sites at Jedediah Smith Campground will be reservable on a year-round basis.

There are many other campgrounds within 45-minutes of the parks' boundaries. Sites may be available at these places even when the parks' campgrounds have been booked. Most campgrounds and RV parks are operated by private business in Humboldt County and Del Norte County. Additionally, to our northeast are campgrounds in the Smith River National Recreation Area of the Six Rivers National Forest, and to our south is Clam Beach County Park and Big Lagoon County Park.

Developed campgrounds

The four developed campgrounds in the parks are (from north to south) :
Jedediah Smith, Mill Creek, Elk Prairie and Gold Bluffs Beach.

Reservations for the four campgrounds must be made through Reserve California, the California State Park reservation system.

Setting up hammocks on any of the trees is not allowed. The use of hammocks and ropes will damage the trees' bark. Most of the the state park campgrounds and campsites were constructed before the 1940s. Be aware they can not accomodate todays large RVs and trailers. To protect your vehicle and the parks' natural resources, RV and trailer size restrictions will be enforced.

For current campground conditions and closures, please see our Current Conditions Page.
