Fleet Week 2021: Traffic Advisory and Public Safety Notice

SAN FRANCISCO—Between Thursday, October 7, and Sunday, October 10, the annual Fleet Week activities are returning to Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Presidio of San Francisco, Fort Point National Historic Site, and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. National Park visitors can expect large crowds and traffic congestion in and around the San Francisco and Marin County waterfronts. 

Congested areas will include Fort Point National Historic Site, Crissy Field, Fort Mason, Aquatic Park, Hyde Street Pier, Beach Street between Van Ness Avenue and Hyde Street in San Francisco; and Conzelman Road and Fort Baker in Marin County.  

Parking will be extremely limited. Spectators and park visitors are highly encouraged to walk or use public transit, bicycle, taxi, or ride-share services. For public transportation planning and same-day traffic information, call 5-1-1 or visit http://www.511.org.

The grounds of Fort Mason and Aquatic Park are always highly sought-after vantage points that draw crowds for the festivities. Keep the event fun and safe by recreating responsibly and following the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Parking Restrictions & Road Closures:  

• Long Avenue to Marine Drive will be closed to accommodate ADA parking. All parking at Fort Point National Historic Site will be limited to vehicles with a valid ADA state placard or license plate and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  

• Parking at upper Fort Mason is limited to employees and residents of Fort Mason and vehicles with a valid ADA state placard or license plate on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

• Hyde Street, lower Van Ness, and Beach Street will be closed to vehicles. 

Federal Mask Mandate and Social Distancing: 

• Masks are required for everyone, regardless of location or vaccination status, in all National Park Service buildings, crowded outdoor spaces, and all forms of enclosed public transportation. Additional details are available at www.nps.gov/coronavirus. 

• The upper decks of historic ships at Hyde St. Pier will be open to visitation, but capacity is limited to allow for social distancing and safety protocol. Capacity may be reached early in the day. Once capacity is met, entrance lines will be paused until other visitors leave. Hyde Street Pier and the ships are part of the federal facility mandate requiring masks, so come prepared. 

Closures to Protect Natural or Cultural Resources: 

• The Maritime Museum will be closed October 8 - 10. Outdoor restrooms will be in place for the Fleet Week parade of ships and air show on these dates. 

• Crissy Field Wildlife Protection Area will be closed to visitors October 7 - 10 to protect sensitive species.

United States Park Police and the National Park Service are among the agencies partnering to protect visitors and park resources during Fleet Week. Informed, alert communities play a critical role in keeping our national parks safe. Don't hesitate to report unattended packages or suspicious activity.  

Prevent vehicle burglaries. Stow before you go—leave your valuables at home or at least put them in your trunk before arriving at your destination.
