Dog laying down next to National Park Service ballcap
Bark rangers know that their humans should always check the pet rules before taking them to a National Park Service site. Arf!

The rules for pets vary by site; see below.

Note that service animals are welcome everywhere.

Do not leave pets unattended in vehicles. Pets in vehicles must have a human in the vehicle with them.

At the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center in Eunice, and the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center in Thibodaux, pets are not allowed in buildings or at public events or programs. Leashed pets are allowed in parking areas and on the grounds at the Acadian Cultural Center and the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center; please clean up after your pet.

At the French Quarter Visitor Center in New Orleans, pets are not allowed.

At the Barataria Preserve in Marrero, pets are only allowed in parking areas and on the deck at the visitor center. Pets must be on a leash and a human must be on the other end of the leash. Please clean up after your pet. Although service animals are welcome everywhere as noted above, the presence of wildlife may mean that service animals may not be comfortable on preserve trails.

At Chalmette Battlefield in Chalmette, pets on leashes are allowed on the grounds but not in buildings. A human must be on the other end of the leash. Pets are not allowed in Chalmette National Cemetery. Note that pets are not allowed at events like the Battle of New Orleans anniversary because of large crowds and cannon firings.
