UPDATE: Section of Beartooth Highway (US-212) remains closed; crews to evaluate conditions into the weekend

News Release Date: October 6, 2023

• The Beartooth Highway (US-212) between Long Lake barricade, near Top of the World Store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line remains closed due to winter weather conditions. 

• Crews will continue to evaluate the road status into the weekend and will reopen this segment of the highway if conditions allow. 

• This section of the highway closed on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. due to forecasted winter weather conditions. Crews have monitored the snow and ice conditions since the temporary closure. 

• The last day to enjoy driving the Beartooth Highway for the season will be Monday, Oct. 9, weather dependent.

• Check for weather forecasts for the Beartooth Highway at National Weather Service.

• Check the Montana and Wyoming departments of transportation websites for road updates and status.

• The Beartooth Highway (US-212) between Long Lake barricade, near Top of the World Store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line will close on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. due to forecasted winter weather conditions.

• Crews will evaluate conditions and will reopen the highway as conditions allow.

• The Beartooth Highway closes annually in early October, weather dependent.

• Check the Montana and Wyoming departments of transportation websites for road updates and status.
