June 2018 Train Excursion Schedule

SCRANTON, Pa. - , School’s out for most which means summertime fun, including train ride excursions from Steamtown National Historic Site in downtown Scranton. Our June 2018 schedule has something for everyone.

On Saturday, June 16, join us aboard an excursion back in time to the Great Gatsby era. At Gouldsboro Station you’ll enjoy 1920s music, flappers, great food, and fun activities for all ages. The trip departs at 11:30 a.m. and returns to the park at 3:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $34 for adults, ages 16-61; $29 for seniors, ages 62 and older; and $22 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket. 

On Sunday, June 17, let Dad kick back on a leisurely afternoon ride to Moscow, Pennsylvania. Visit the restored passenger station and freight depot. The excursion departs at 1:00 p.m. and returns to the park at 3:15 p.m. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61; $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older and $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

If you can’t make the Father’s Day Express, fear not. We have two more great trips to Moscow, a quaint town located on the western fringe of the Poconos; first, on Saturday, June 23, and then the following Saturday, June 30. Both of these Moscow excursions depart Steamtown NHS at 11:00 a.m. and return to the park at 1:00 p.m. Visit the restored stone passenger station and wooden freight depot. Light refreshments and souvenirs will be available, with sales supporting the restoration of our mainline Boston & Maine #3713 steam locomotive. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61; $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older and $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

And to kick off July, we’re heading back to Gouldsboro on Saturday, July 1, for our first Boy Scout Railroading Merit Badge Workshop of the year. While the public is invited to enjoy the ride and amenities at the historic Gouldsboro Station, Scouts will have the opportunity to increase their understanding of railroad history, rail safety, and learn about our vintage railroad equipment all while working toward this coveted merit badge. Tickets may be purchased by credit card for any of these rail excursions by calling 570-340-5204 or stopping by the Steamtown National Historic Site Fee Booth Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m, where credit cards, cash, checks and money orders are accepted.

Please note that the Fee Booth is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, ticket reservations may be secured on those days by calling 570-340-5206 and providing the requested information; park staff will return your call on Wednesday morning to finalize your purchase via credit card. Day of excursion walk up sales may also be available. Please note that all sales are final and trips run rain or shine.

And if you only have a short time to visit the park, consider a trip on one of our short train rides. The 30-minute "Scranton Limited" train stays inside the park boundaries and will operate on Fridays and Saturdays, while the 45-minute “Nay Aug Limited” train rides to the scenic Nay Aug Gorge on Sundays in June. All short train rides depart from the Roundhouse boarding area at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. There is a $5 charge for persons 6 years and older. 

Located in downtown Scranton, Pa., Steamtown NHS is open daily from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. From I-81 follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then follow the brown and white signs to the park entrance at Lackawanna Avenue and Cliff Street (GPS: N 41.41, W 75.67).
