Where to Begin?

Isle Royale National Park is a remote island wilderness in the middle of Lake Superior. It is only accessible by ferry, seaplane, or private watercraft. Weather influences traveling to and from the island, as well as your trip once you arrive. Make the most of your visit by using these basic information resources:

The Houghton Visitor Center in Houghton, Michigan is open year-round, Monday - Friday (closed during fall and winter holidays).  
Check out current weather conditions in the park prior to your trip.
Isle Royale National Park charges an entrance fee to help augment the cost of preserving and maintaining this special place.

Isle Royale National Park has one mainland (Houghton, MI) and two in-park (Rock Harbor and Windigo) Visitor Centers. The Houghton Visitor Center is open year-round.  

The Rock Harbor and Windigo Visitor Centers have varying hours when the park is open April 16 - October 31. The Isle Royale National Park archipelago is closed October 31 - April 15 annually.
