Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, in collaboration with Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Hearne Fine Art, Celebrate! Maya Project, L.C. and Daisy Bates House Museum Foundation, Arkansans For The Arts, The Loony Bin and other organizations, proudly pay tribute to the late Nikki Giovanni.
Ms. Giovanni played a pivotal role in Arkansas’s history, including her presence alongside Congressman John Lewis at the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School and opening of the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site visitor center. Over the years, she shared her wisdom and poetry across the state, appearing at institutions such as Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, among others.
As an activist, author, educator, poet, Delta, and writer, Nikki Giovanni intentionally graced the Natural State with her literary brilliance and unwavering dedication to social justice. For her contributions and support of Arkansas, we pause to celebrate and honor her legacy.
