BAR HARBOR, MAINE -- Five accomplished and emerging artists have accepted invitations to participate in the Artist-in-Residence program at Acadia National Park in 2024.
Founded in 1993, the program is dedicated to creating new and interesting ways for visitors to experience Acadia through the arts. Since 2023, the program's operational costs have been funded fully by donations from sales proceeds at America’s National Park Stores (Eastern National) stores throughout the park.
Invited participants this year include:
-
Vanessa Blakeslee, of Melbourne, FL, for writing
-
Mike Bove, of Portland, ME, for writing
-
Lorraine Bubar, of Los Angeles, CA, for visual art
-
Richard Huck, of Northeast Harbor, ME, for visual art
-
Caleb Worcester, of Kansas City, MO, for at-large media (digital animation)

Each invited participant is asked to lead one outreach activity for park visitors and to complete a finished work of art for public display in park gallery spaces as well as a permanent online catalog.
Acadia’s residency opportunity this year attracted 353 applications from 45 states, which was double the number of applications it received for 2023. The next open call for residency opportunities in 2025 will be July 1-Sept 30, 2024.
