Each and every time that I venture into the park I come away with images that are beyond the scope of reality. The trees and rock formations present themselves, and in my mind, stories start to form. The subtleties that exist in nature are a magical source of inspiration; from there I create what I want to share with the world.

Visual Arts Residency 2024
Born in Newark, NJ, educated at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, and retired from 40 years of teaching high school art, Richard Huck has been drawing for a long, long time.
His lush and detailed color pencil drawings are reminiscent of things we know, yet as we look more closely, we question what we are seeing. Intrigued by things out of place, trucks in fields, tentacles in trees and machines on toys, the whimsical through the apocalyptic are all part of his visual language. Drawings are often born from small constructions in the studio; constructions in the studio become sculptures. His studio is a playground of collections, debris, and many, many colored pencils.
This year’s winner of Best in Show at the Colored Pencil Society of America’s Explore This! International Exhibition is a work that was inspired by hikes in Acadia National Park. His work has been exhibited in Paris, France; Amsterdam, Netherlands; New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Beverly Hills and Philadelphia. He is a past member and president of the Echo Valley Art Group, Lancaster, PA. A current member of the Colored Pencil Society of America with signature status. His drawings and colored pencil paintings have been published in numerous publications both in book and periodical forms including Art in America, Artist’s Magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, Lancaster Newspapers, the Society of Illustrators Annual and Outstanding American Illustrators.
His work is held in many private and public collections. An avid cold-water diver and hiker, Richard, his wife and dog, sometimes two, resides on an island off the coast of Maine.
