SPRINGDALE, Utah - Zion National Park implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions beginning Friday, May 22, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions across southwest Utah.
The restrictions apply to all lands within Zion National Park and will remain in effect until rescinded by the Superintendent.
The following are prohibited:

Setting, building, maintaining, attending or using open fires of any kind in the park.

Campfires and charcoal fires within Watchman Campground, South Campground or picnic areas in Zion Canyon.

Smoking in vegetated areas, except within an enclosed vehicle, a developed recreation site, or an area clear of vegetation at least 3 feet in diameter.

Discharging or using fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices. Fireworks are always prohibited on all federal public lands, including Zion National Park.
Cook stoves fueled by petroleum or liquid propane gas are allowed. Campers at Lava Point Campground may still have fires in established fire rings.
“Dry conditions are increasing across the region, and these restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires in Zion,” said Jeff Bradybaugh, Zion National Park Superintendent. “Visitors can help protect the park, nearby communities and firefighters by following all fire restrictions during their visit.”
These restrictions are part of broader fire prevention efforts across southwest Utah and northern Arizona. Fire restrictions can vary by agency and jurisdiction, so visitors should check current rules before traveling.
Violation of these restrictions is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months.
