Twelvemile Beach Campground Closed Effective October 5
The road construction project that will improve access at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will require a temporary closure in the coming weeks. The current Alger County Road H-58 upgrade project will require closing an additional section of road between Twelvemile Beach Campground and Hurricane River Campground effective October 5.
As a result of this additional closure on H-58, Twelvemile Beach Campground will not be accessible and consequently will close for the season. H-58 remains closed between Kingston Lake and Twelvemile Beach Campground.
"The contractor has worked diligently to allow the campground to remain open as long as possible this construction season. The closure is now absolutely necessary to maintain the safety of the public and construction workers as the project progresses through the Twelvemile area," according to Facility Manager Chris Case. McQuestion and Sons, Inc., is the contractor.
It is expected that Twelvemile Beach Campground will reopen in spring 2010. It will be accessible from the west via the newly reconstructed H-58 as the project continues between Twelvemile Beach and the Hurricane River.
