Join a Ranger in the Park

Ranger-led field trips are offered year-round in the park. These educational field trips cover a variety of topics and are scheduled for a minimum of 3 ½ hours. Environment education trips generally consist of two hours of surface activities, a lunch break at the picnic area, and up to two hours in the cave.

Programs on the surface and cave tours are customized to correspond with subjects being studied in class. Groups may spend additional time in the park with advanced planning.

To minimize group size and facilitate more individualized instruction, only one teacher/chaperone per ten students will be allowed to attend the field trip and participate in the activities.

In person, 3 ½ hour environmental educational trips have a fee of $10.00 per student starting March 1, 2024.

For questions or program scheduling, email the Mammoth Cave Environmental Education Department.

All onsite education trips are booked for the 2023-2024 school year. We do have distance learning opportunities available. We will begin booking onsite education trips for 2024-2025 school year on March 1, 2023.

Participating in Public Cave Tours

Teachers wishing to bring their class to the park, without the lessons and activities from the Environmental Education Department, can schedule their class for one of the standard cave tours open to the public.

A reduced rate is offered to educational groups to participate in the two-hour long Historic Tour of Mammoth Cave. Field trip groups are charged a fee of $12.00 per student/chaperone beginning March 1, 2024, with a limit of one chaperone per ten students. The group must have a minimum of twenty students. Other regularly scheduled cave tours are available at the standard fee.

Please note, this option for cave tours in Mammoth Cave are also open to the general public. Education groups should anticipate having other park visitors on the cave tour with them.

To schedule a cave tour for your class, please email the contact name, email address, school name, zip code, number of students, grade level, daytime phone number, and a possible date to the Mammoth Cave Fee Office.
