OMAHA, NE. – Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail has released its 2022 Annual Report. The report documents a year of work with partners across the U.S. to commemorate and protect the 4,900-mile-long historic route of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
"It is exciting to again have this chance to share a few of this year’s highlights of the accomplishments by our talented employees, volunteers, and partners,” said Superintendent Mark Weekley. “Together, these efforts are enormously important and have a huge positive impact on the Lewis and Clark Trail.”
Partnerships continued to be central to the trail’s efforts in 2022 and included collaboration with the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association (AIANTA,) work with local partners to update waysides, and the Umóⁿhoⁿ Ethnobotany Project.
In 2022, Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail led an initiative to map more than 814 miles of historic river route and overland route with panoramic mapping.
Interpretive Specialist Caitlin Campbell received the National Park Service’s Freeman Tilden Award for excellence in Interpretation for her work on the Lewis and Clark Trail Junior Ranger program.
The Lewis and Clark Trail’s official National Park Service website (www.nps.gov/lecl) received nearly one million views in 2022, thanks in part to newly added and updated history content. Lewis and Clark Trail partners and the public alike, can utilize web and NPS mobile app resources for learning and trip planning.
The 2022 Annual Report also details a new story map about salmon, natural resource documentation, volunteerism, and other Lewis and Clark Trail updates.
