Houghton, Michigan is Isle Royale National Park's mainland headquarters. It is located along the Portage Canal in Houghton. Use this map to locate park headquarters and the Houghton Visitor Center. The address is: 800 E. Lakeshore Drive, Houghton, MI 49931.

Things to know about the Houghton Visitor Center:
  • Open year-round, Monay-Friday, with the exception of fall and winter federal holidays. Expanded summer hours. Check the visitor center operating hours prior to your visit.
  • It is the home port for the park ferry, Ranger III.
  • Private boaters can obtain their boating permit at the visitor center for their visit prior to heading out to the island.
  • Cash, Check, and Credit Cards are accepted when paying park entrance fees or Ranger III transportation fees.
  • Interagency passes can be purchased or obtained.
  • A 25 minute park orientation video is available upon request
  • The Park Store is always open during regular business hours.
  • Ask to participate in the park's Junior Ranger Program.
