Hot Springs, Ark. - Hot Springs National Park is proud to announce three public volunteer events as part of the Trail Recovery Leaders Project. This project, started in 2021, is organized by the park’s Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) to bolster community engagement, participation, and stewardship of our national park. Last year, the Trail Recovery Leaders Project contributed to over 400 volunteer hours, clearing invasive plant species from nearly 1.5 miles of trail, and graffiti from two historic stone overlooks.
An additional purpose of this project is to empower youth in our community, provide invaluable leadership experience, and foster a passion and appreciation for public land stewardship. Each event will be led by a small group of trained youth volunteers from the Hot Springs community.
The three Trail Recovery Volunteer events are as follows:
- July 23: Trail trash clean-up
- July 30: Invasive plant species removal
- Aug 6: Graffiti removal from Hot Springs’ historic stone overlooks
The events will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Folks of all ages and skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend and lend a helping hand. Water and snacks will be provided by Friends of Hot Springs National Park. All participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle to reduce the usage of single-use plastics.
