Hot Springs, Ark. - Hot Springs National Park will host “The Battle of Downtown”- a trash cleanup competition on September 24th from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. The Battle of Downtown is a friendly competition aimed at fostering stewardship and a deeper connection to our community’s beloved public lands. Interested participants can enter as an individual or as part of a larger group or team. To participate in the event, volunteers should meet on Arlington Lawn at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 24.

Rangers will distribute trash bags and review the rules of the competition. Participants will have until 2:00 p.m. to collect trash from Hot Springs National Park’s trails, parking areas, overlooks, picnic areas, and campground. Participants should bring their collected trash back to Arlington Lawn where the closing ceremony will commence at 2:00 p.m.

In addition to unique prizes awarded to the winners of the competition, each participant will receive one free entry pass to any federal public land courtesy of the National Environmental Education Foundation, and a custom event t-shirt.
