Unhealthy Air Quality Suspends Visitor Services Until Tuesday, November 20

Golden Gate National Recreation Area (including Alcatraz Island, Fort Point National Historic Site, and Muir Woods National Monument) will continue to suspend visitor operations through Tuesday, November 20 out of concern for the safety of employees and visitors.

The forecast for the San Francisco Bay Area air quality on Tuesday, November 20 is anticipated to be “unhealthy level.”

On Tuesday, park management will meet mid-morning to look at weather forecasts for Wednesday and will provide public notification shortly after.

Park Site Schedules:


Monday, November 19 Update:
The Presidio Visitor Center closed early at 2:15 pm due to limited staff.

Tuesday, November 20:
The Presidio Visitor Center will be open.

San Francisco:
Crissy Field Warming Hut, Alcatraz Island services, Fort Point National Historic Site, Lands End Lookout, and Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center and Cafe. No access will be available to Alcatraz Island.

Marin County:
Muir Woods National Monument Visitor Center and concessions, Marin Headlands Visitor Center, and Point Bonita Lighthouse.

Park olunteer programs, outdoor walks, and education programs are also suspended. All emergency services and emergency facility operations will continue to be available. Park management will reevaluate park operations as conditions change.
