A new opportunity is on the horizon as Golden Gate National Recreation Area invites interested parties to submit qualifications for the food and beverage operation at the Lands End Restaurant Properties, including the Cliff House and the Lands End Lookout Cafe.

The Cliff House, as the current concession holder calls the restaurant, was acquired by the National Park Service in 1977 and has operated under a concession contract since that time. The building was constructed in 1909 and is the third Cliff House on this site after the two previous Cliff House buildings were destroyed by fire. The primary structure consists of a renovated historic structure and a major addition completed in 2006.

“The Lands End Restaurant Properties provide a unique publicly offered lease opportunity with stunning ocean views and rich history adjacent to the historic Sutro Baths ruins and Lands End coastal landscape. The cultural and natural significance of this area is deeply rooted in the identity of our local community,” said General Superintendent Laura E. Joss. “Golden Gate National Recreation Area will work with the operator of this iconic site to ensure high quality food and beverage service to the public. This lease will also help the park meet its goals of providing diverse menu items and price ranges; made with healthy ingredients, in an environmentally sustainable way, to San Francisco neighbors and international visitors alike.”

The main building is situated on a hillside above the Pacific Ocean in the north western most corner of San Francisco, California. The Offered Property will also include the café at the nearby Lands End visitor center, public restrooms, public viewing areas, and non-exclusive use of an adjacent parking lot.

The anticipated announcement for the narrowed down selection of respondents will be winter 2019/2020. The 20-year Lease is anticipated to be effective fall 2020.
