2017 Writer-in-Residence Selected - John Michael Flynn. Learn more about him here.
It was the desire of Mrs. Lilian Sandburg, when her family's North Carolina home became a unit of the National Park Service in 1968, that Connemara continue to be a place of inspiration for future generations of writers. With the support of the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara her idea was first implemented in 2010.
This program offers writers an opportunity to live and work at Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site. The three-week residency commences during April. Housing is offered in an historic cottage near the Sandburg Home.
The program is targeted at early-career writers. In addition to uninterrupted writing time, the residencies offer opportunities for service at Carl Sandburg Home NHS and in the local community, for presentation of workshops or readings, and for literary projects of their own in the region, where there is a vibrant literary community. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, outgoing, interested in multiple aspects of the literary field, and has a desire to engage with the community.
This program is made possible through support from the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara.
