SPRINGDALE, Utah - Zion National Park will reopen South Campground on Friday, May 29, with reservations required and now available through Recreation.gov

South Campground is located near Zion’s South Entrance, within walking distance of the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, the Zion Canyon Shuttle System, and the town of Springdale. The campground is one of three developed campgrounds in the park available for reservations, including Watchman and Lava Point Campgrounds.

South Campground reservations are available up to 14 days before arrival. The NPS expects reservations to fill quickly, especially during the busy summer season, so visitors should check availability before traveling to the park.

Campers should plan ahead and review park campground regulations before arriving. Regulations include:
  • Check-in begins at noon, and check-out is 11 a.m.
  • Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Generator use is only allowed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Food, trash, toiletries, pet food, and other scented items must be stored properly or disposed of in appropriate receptacles.
  • Pets are allowed in developed campgrounds but must be restrained and may not create unreasonable noise.
Visitors should also prepare for summer conditions. South Campground is in a desert environment, and daytime temperatures in Zion often exceed 95 degrees in the summer. Campers should bring enough water, sun protection, and supplies for hot weather. Additionally, Stage 2 fire restrictions are currently in effect and prohibit open fires, including campfires and charcoal fires, at South Campground. Campers should check current park fire restrictions before arriving and throughout their stay.

South Campground is expected to remain open through summer and fall before closing for the winter season. Updates will be posted on the park website and Zion National Park social media channels.

For current campground information, alerts, and trip planning details, visit Zion National Park’s camping webpages and Recreation.gov.
