Zion- Mount Carmel Highway Remains Closed

SPRINGDALE, UT – The Zion- Mount Carmel Highway remains closed as trail crews work to remove debris from mudslides following intense rain Wednesday night. The Zion- Mount Carmel Highway connects Route 9 between Springdale and Kanab. Visitors will need to detour using either Route 59/389 to the south or Route 14 to the north.

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive has reopened to shuttles and lodge guests. However, shuttles are only able to go as far as the Grotto Shuttle Stop before turning around. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is closed above the Grotto. Visitors are not allowed to walk the road.

Park staff is currently assessing the damage, removing the debris and clearing culverts. More rain is expected later today.
