Fire crews will begin ignitions on the 150 acre Studhorse unit south of the Wawona Hotel today, Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Firing operations will begin on the northeastern side of the Wawona Road (Highway 41) in the eastern edge of the unit and continue to the western portion of the Studhorse area. Traffic control will be in place; thank you in advance for driving carefully and watching for firefighters and equipment near the road.
Burning under these favorable conditions helps create a healthier forest and lowers the risk of more dangerous fires in the future. Native plants benefit and invasive ones are more controlled.
Smoke will be present during and after burning operations. Air quality information can be found online at https://fire.airnow.gov/.
