During the first week of October, Yosemite fire crews will be conducting pile burning operations in Yosemite Valley along the El Capitan Crossover Road, and possibly near Cook's Meadow, Ahwahnee Meadow, and along sections of Northside Drive. Additional pile burning will take place along the Crane Flat Lookout Road.
This is part of forest restoration work where small trees and dead and downed material is being removed to facilitate regular prescribed fire, encourage black oak regeneration, expand meadowlands, improve wildlife habitat, and enhance cultural landscapes.
