Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument Experience ancient lava fields and take in views of an 8,000 foot tall volcano that erupted around 1,000 years ago. Montezuma Castle National Monument Built by the Sinagua culture 1,000 years ago, the 20-room high-rise stone structure that is nestled into a limestone cliff is one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in North America. Enjoy a stroll on the paved path through a sycamore grove along the base of the limestone cliffs and marvel at the dwellings above. Directions: Take I-17 south from Flagstaff for 55 miles (55 minutes). Take exit 289 Middle Verde Road, turn left onto Middle Verde Road, turn left onto Montezuma Castle Road. Tuzigoot National Monument Preserving a 110-room pueblo on the summit of a limestone and sandstone ridge, you can step back in time 1,000 years ago and learn about the Sinagua people who created this structure when you visit Tuzigoot National Monument. Directions: located 68 miles (1 hour & 15 minutes) from Flagstaff, take I-17 south, take exit 293 toward Mcguireville/Montezuma Well, turn left onto County Road 30/County Road 77, turn right onto N Main St, turn right onto Tuzigoot Road. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Encompassing Lake Powell, Horseshoe Bend, scenic vistas, geologic wonders, and a range of human history, the 1.25 million acres within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers an array of recreational opportunities. Directions: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is 131 miles (2 hours & 10 mins) from Flagstaff. Take Highway 89 north, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is just outside the city of Page, AZ. Entrance Fee: Vehicle entry is $30.00 and is valid for 7 days at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area only. Horseshoe Bend is not covered under this fee. There is a separate parking fee of $10.00 per vehicle, & $5.00 per motorcycle to park at Horseshoe Bend. The 7-day Glen Canyon National Recreation Area pass and other national park passes will not cover the fee at Horseshoe Bend.
