Entrance Fees

Credit Card Only Transactions - entrance fee and pass purchases will need to be made with a credit or debit card. The monument will not be processing cash transactions. Credit and debit card only transactions are being instituted for safety measures related to COVID 19, and to increase the efficiency of the park's fee operation.

Private Vehicle Fee

Cost: $25.00 per private vehicle - valid for 7 days

This fee is charged per vehicle and is only valid for entry at Walnut Canyon National Monument for 7 days. Major credit and debit cards are accepted for all fees.

Flagstaff Area National Monuments Pass

Cost: $45 - Annual Pass for Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments.

Admits pass holder and occupants of a single, non-commercial vehicle at Walnut Canyon National Monument, Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, and Wupatki National Monument for one year. The annual pass is good for 12 months from the month of purchase.

This pass can be purchased in-person at the Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki National Monuments.

America the Beautiful - Annual Pass

Cost $80

This pass is available to the general public. The pass provides access to, and use of, federal recreation sites that charge an entrance or standard amenity fee. The America the Beautiful Pass is valid for one full year from the month of purchase (through the last day of that month). Photo identification is required to verify ownership. Passes are non-refundable, not transferable and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen.

  • For active duty United States military personnel and dependents with one of the following forms of identification: CAC Card or DD Form 1173.
  • For veterans (individuals who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves) with one of the following forms of identification: Department of Defense Identification Card (CAC Card), Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), Veteran ID Card, Veteran designation on a state-issued U.S. driver's license or identification card. Note: Form DD-214 ("Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty") is not accepted.
  • For Gold Star Families with a printed voucher.

4th Grade Annual Pass
Every Kid Outdoors 4th Grade Pass

Annual "Every Kid Outdoors" 4th Grade Pass

Cost: Free

Every Kid Outdoors introduces U.S. 4th graders and their families to our national parks. By targeting fourth graders one year at a time, we will ensure every child in the U.S, has the opportunity to visit and enjoy their public lands and waters by the time he or she is 11 years old.

Paper vouchers can be obtained by visiting the Every Kid Outdoors website and those vouchers may be exchanged for the Annual 4th Grade Pass at federal recreation sites that charge entrance or amenity fees.

America the Beautiful Access Pass

America the Beautiful - Access Pass

Cost: Free
This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. The pass provides access to, and use of, federal recreation sites that charge an entrance or standard amenity fee.

Documentation is required to obtain the pass. Acceptable documentation includes: statement by a licensed physician; document issued by a federal agency such as the Veteran's Administration, Social Security Disability Income or Supplemental Security Income; or document issued by a state agency such as a vocational rehabilitation agency.

2022 Fee Free Days

The National Park Service has designated five days in 2022 in which entrance fees will be waived. The dates for 2022 are:

 

Commercial Fees

Commercial fees are charged only to commercial operators that provide services to visitors (such as escorted bus tours or guided trip packages).

Commercial Vehicle Capacity 1-6 (Sedan) $28 per day
Commercial Vehicle Capacity 7-25 (Van) $40 per day
Commercial Vehicle Capacity 26+ (Bus) $100 per day


Commercial fees are charged according to vehicle carrying capacity - not number of persons on board. Commercial fees paid at Walnut Canyon will be honored for same-day entry at Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments. Commercial passes are valid for one day only.

 

School Groups

Special Use Permits

Special Use Permits are required for all commercial filming, special gatherings such as weddings, and any backcountry access. Visit our Permits Page for more information.

Research Permits

Researchers wishing to do work inside the monument will need to go through our online permitting process here.
