Entrance Passes

Standard Entrance Pass

$15.00–$25.00

This pass covers the pass holder and up to 15 passengers of a single, private (non-commercial) vehicle at Walnut Canyon National Monuments for 1-7 days.

Admits the passholder and passenger of one motorcycle to Walnut Canyon National Monument for 1-7 days.

Admits one individual bicyclist, hiker, or pedestrian visiting the facility without a private vehicle. Good for Walnut Canyon National Monument for 1-7 days. A pass is not required for individuals 15 or younger.

For Organizations & Businesses

Bona fide educational institutions visiting for non-recreational purposes whose visit pertains directly to established curriculum are exempt from paying entry fees. Apply for an educational fee waiver at least 4 weeks in advance by submitting an educational fee waiver. Please see the below link to access the waiver.

Non-commercial groups pay the per person fee up until the cost exceeds that of the commercial rate for the same size vehicle.

Covers occupants of a vehicle with an occupancy of 1-6 individuals at Sunset Crater, Wupatki, and Walnut Canyon for 1 day. A commercial group is defined as a group that is entering for the purpose of providing commercial tour services within the unit. A commercial group consists of one or more persons traveling on an itinerary that has been packaged, priced, or sold for leisure/recreational purpose by an organization that realizes financial gain through the provision of the service.

Covers occupants of a vehicle with an occupancy of 7-15 individuals at Sunset Crater, Wupatki, and Walnut Canyon for 1 day. A commercial group is defined as a group that is entering for the purpose of providing commercial tour services within the unit. A commercial group consists of one or more persons traveling on an itinerary that has been packaged, priced, or sold for leisure/recreational purpose by an organization that realizes financial gain through the provision of the service.

Covers occupants of a vehicle with an occupancy of 16+ individuals at Sunset Crater, Wupatki, and Walnut Canyon for 1 day. A commercial group is defined as a group that is entering for the purpose of providing commercial tour services within the unit. A commercial group consists of one or more persons traveling on an itinerary that has been packaged, priced, or sold for leisure/recreational purpose by an organization that realizes financial gain through the provision of the service.

Admits the passholder, passenger of one motorcycle, or occupants of a single, non-commercial vehicle at Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, and Wupatki National Monuments for 1 year.

Entrance Fees

Credit Card Only Transactions - entrance fee and pass purchases will need to be made with a credit or debit card. The monument will not be processing cash transactions. Credit and debit card only transactions are being instituted for safety measures related to COVID 19, and to increase the efficiency of the park's fee operation.

Private Vehicle Fee

Cost: $25.00 per private vehicle - valid for 7 days

This fee is charged per vehicle and is only valid for entry at Walnut Canyon National Monument for 7 days. Major credit and debit cards are accepted for all fees.

Commercial Fees

Commercial fees are charged only to commercial operators that provide services to visitors (such as escorted bus tours or guided trip packages).

Commercial Vehicle Capacity 1-6 (Sedan) $28 per day
Commercial Vehicle Capacity 7-25 (Van) $40 per day
Commercial Vehicle Capacity 26+ (Bus) $100 per day


Commercial fees are charged according to vehicle carrying capacity - not number of persons on board. Commercial fees paid at Walnut Canyon will be honored for same-day entry at Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments. Commercial passes are valid for one day only.

Special Use Permits

Special Use Permits are required for all commercial filming, special gatherings such as weddings, and any backcountry access. Visit our Permits Page for more information.

Research Permits

Researchers wishing to do work inside the monument will need to go through our online permitting process here.
