STRONG CITY, Kansas: Who knew that clogging and quilts go together? Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is pleased to announce the upcoming annual Labor Day weekend quilt display in the historic barn from September 2 - 4, 2017. New this year is the “clogging rangers” providing clogging demonstrations and instruction among the quilts on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. and then again at 2:00 – 2:45 p.m.

“Lend us your tired, worn, folded quilt masses, yearning to breathe free….” Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve needs your quilts over the Labor Day weekend to help celebrate the 12th anniversary of the annual Tallgrass Prairie Quilt Display. There is no charge for displaying your quilt and all quilts are welcome. Please call the preserve at 620-273-6034 ext. 241 before Tuesday, August 29, 2017 to make arrangements to drop off your quilt one week before the show. It is recommended to air out your quilts yearly, so why not make this a tradition and let your quilt breathe in the beautiful historic limestone barn as hundreds of people view the quilts over the holiday weekend.

On Saturday in the historic barn from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. and 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. the Clogging Rangers will demonstrate and teach anyone who is interested the fine art of clogging. No experience necessary, just a desire to have fun and enjoy the festivities. Cold water and lemonade served.

This year also provides the opportunity to display your quilt with the 2016 special Centennial Quilt created by members of the Flint Hills Quilt Guilds and Chase County residents. All quilts will be displayed in the historic barn and then taken down each afternoon in order to keep them safe. Quilts are never left overnight in the barn. If you have fragile antique quilts, we have tables for their display; they will not be hung. Visitors to the preserve have the chance to vote for their favorite quilt over the weekend. Winner will be announced on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 1 p.m.

So, go search your closets and give your quilts a chance to breathe free and see new landscapes. We look forward to the celebration of quilts, community spirit, fun, and another wonderful display of quilts.
