Parking Lot Being Paved

News Release Date: March 29, 2022 Strong City, Kansas – Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve announced that the park headquarters, which includes the visitor center, vehicle entrance, parking lots, and historic building site will be closed to visitation April 9, 2022 to April 18, 2022 to allow for the paving of the parking lot and entrance from highway K-177. Be aware that these closure dates may change due to weather fluctuations.  It is always best to call the park at 620-273-8494 ext. 270 prior to your visit. The hiking and nature trails will remain open, but visitors will need to access them from one of the three trailhead areas. The trailheads are the Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse, Bottomland Nature Trail, and the Two Section pasture area on the east side of Strong City, KS.  Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located two miles north of Strong City on Kansas State Highway 177 (the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway) and is a unique public/private partnership between the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy.
