Steamtown NHS Announces May and June 2016 Excursions

SCRANTON, Pa. – Steamtown National Historic Site announces our train excursion schedule for the end of May and the month of June, beginning on Saturday, May 28 with an excursion to the Mid Valley borough of Jessup, Pennsylvania.

Help celebrate Memorial Day with a roundtrip excursion to Jessup aboard a World War II troop train reenactment. During the excursion layover, enjoy the Jessup Fireman’s picnic and a historic tour. Food, rides, music and vendors will be available at the picnic. The excursion departs the Steamtown Boarding Platform at 12:30 p.m. and returns at 5:45 p.m. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61, $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older, $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket. 

Sunday, May 29, join us aboard an excursion to Moscow, Pennsylvania. Visit the restored passenger station and freight depot. Light refreshments and souvenirs will also be available at Moscow Station stop. Sales support the restoration of the Boston & Maine #3713 steam locomotive. The excursion departs at 12:30 p.m. and returns at 3:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61, $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older, $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

Saturday, June 4, we’ll venture to Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania for a roundtrip excursion departing the Steamtown Boarding Platform at 11:00 a.m. and returning at 3:00 p.m. Enjoy your trip to the highest-elevation railroad station on the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad mainline, and join a walking tour to visit a former ice house during the Station layover. Ticket pricing is $34 for adults, ages 16-61, $29 for seniors, ages 62 and older, $22 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket. 

Saturday, June 11 will see an excursion trip to Moscow, Pennsylvania. Visit the restored passenger station and freight depot. Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19, and we have the perfect gift for dads and the entire family. You’ll enjoy a Special Ballroom Brunch at Scranton’s historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel followed by a train ride into the nearby Pocono Mountains! The luxurious hotel is the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad’s passenger station in Scranton’s Central City. After enjoying a delicious brunch you’ll board a Steamtown National Historic Site excursion train directly from the hotel, bound for a roundtrip excursion to Moscow. There are several seatings available for the Father’s Day Ballroom Brunch, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The train will depart from the hotel at 1:30 p.m., and is scheduled to return to Scranton at 3:30 p.m. You’ll enjoy fine dining at the Radisson, followed by a relaxing journey along a portion of the former Lackawanna Railroad’s scenic mainline. Tickets are priced at $54.95 for adults, $34.95 for children 12 and younger. We finish out our June excursion schedule on Saturday, June 25 with an excursion to Delaware Water Gap Township’s “Founder’s Day” celebration. During the layover, enjoy restaurants, shops, historic displays, a car show, and a historic program on the resorts in and around this small town. This special excursion departs the Steamtown Boarding Platform at 9:00 a.m. and returns at approximately 5:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $54 for adults, ages 16-61, $49 for seniors, ages 62 and older, $32 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket. 

All excursions will be powered with historic diesel locomotives. Excursion fares include the park Entrance Fee, which is $7.00 per adult, daily, ages 16 and older. Children ages 15 and younger, accompanied by an adult, are admitted to the Park at no cost. All walking tours offered by the Steamtown NHS staff, including museum access and the park movie, “Steel and Steam,” are included in the park’s Entrance Fee. Reservations must be pre-paid, and tickets are non-refundable unless an excursion is cancelled by Park Management.We accept all major credit and debit cards. The popular “Scranton Limited” short train rides will continue to operate on Wednesdays through Saturdays during May and June at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. On Sundays we offer the “Nay Aug Limited” short train rides that transports visitors to the entrance of Nay Aug Tunnel on the same schedule. Tickets to ride either train cost $5.00 per person, all ages 6 and older.Ranger-led walking tours will also be available daily.
