Visitor Impacts

Shenandoah National Park is working with utility partners to make repairs and upgrade infrastructure in an effort to proactively mitigate damage from future weather events. Work began early April to replace utility poles and repair power lines along two utility corridors in the Park. Work completed in the Big Meadows area April 24, allowing work to begin in Mathews Arm Campground. There will be impacts to visitor services at the campground.

Mathews Arm Campground:

• An opening date for the campground is to be determined.
• If you have a campground reservation between now and mid-June and have not been contacted about your reservation at Mathews Arm, please contact Mindy Bogue: [e-mail] or 540-999-3500 x3405.
  • You may request to move your camping location to either Big Meadows or Loft Mountain Campgrounds. Availability may be limited in those campgrounds due to the Mathews Arm closure.
  • Or, you may request a refund for your reservation if you wish to cancel.
