Air Quality Field Trip - Pass Mountain Overlook

A photographer with a tripod captures a sunset over the Shenandoah Valley from Pass Mountain Overlook.

Pass Mountain Overlook is a National Historic Landmark. It is one of 148 overlook and vista points along Skyline Drive. From Pass Mountain Overlook you can see the scenic Shenandoah Valley to the west, including the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District and the town of Luray, Virginia.

Clean air is critical for inspirational views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding valleys. Air pollution can create a white or brown haze that affects how far we can see. It also affects how well we see the colors, forms, and textures in a view.
