Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore welcomes artist Todd Marsee as the 2017 Artist-in-Residence (AIR). Marsee, an award-winning Michigan watercolorist from Ann Arbor, MI, will live and work in the national lakeshore for three weeks starting on September 18 as part of the park’s annual AIR program.

Marsee’s watercolor paintings usually feature natural imagery overlaid on abstract, textured backgrounds.  “My paintings are interpretations of the fragile beauty and resilience of nature,” Marsee says. “Textures, patterns, and designs of nature inspire me to paint. I’m eager to see how my time in the Upper Peninsula will be visible in my art.”

Marsee will host a free outdoor painting demonstration for the public from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, September 30 at Miners Castle.  To view a variety of Marsee’s work go to: http://www.marseegallery.com/ or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/artoftoddmarsee/.

The public painting demonstration is part of the park’s celebration of National Public Lands Day. Staff from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will also be at Miners Castle on September 30 offering programs on the park’s geology and history. Those who would like to lend a hand to their public lands can learn about volunteer opportunities at the park, or spend time helping to remove graffiti and pick up litter.

The Artist-in-Residence program at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore began in 1986 and continues a nationwide tradition of creating and sharing art inspired by our national parks. More information about AIR can be found on the park’s website at https://www.nps.gov/piro/getinvolved/supportyourpark/artistresidence.htm. Applications for next year’s residency will be accepted through December 31.
