Lake Superior Day Beach Walk Planned for July 20

(Munising, MICH.)  In celebration of Lake Superior Day, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore interpreter Andrea Chynoweth will lead a guided walk at Miners Beach on Sunday, July 20, at 1 p.m.

The hour-long walk will focus on the power of Lake Superior to influence both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, impacts on weather, and the dynamic forces at work where water meets land.

To reach Miners Beach from Munising, travel east on Alger County Road H-58 to Miners Castle Road, about five miles. Travel north on Miners Castle Road for about six miles, turning right onto the road to Miners Beach. After one mile, turn left at the T-intersection and meet Ranger Andrea at the parking lot on the west side of Miners Beach.

Lake Superior Day is an annual event that occurs the third Sunday of July. Started by a group of citizens in the 1990s at Thunder Bay, Ontario, it now includes celebrations and activities from more than 50 groups and communities around Lake Superior.
