Munising, MICHIGAN - Beginning August 15, 2024, the bridge on Miners Beach Road over Miners River at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will have single-lane closures. Visitors can expect delays during this time. After Labor Day, September 2, 2024, the bridge will close completely to traffic in both directions. This closure is anticipated to last until Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, subject to weather delays and other factors.
Miners Beach will only be accessible via the North Country National Scenic Trail from Miners Castle. Miners Castle will remain accessible during the closure of the bridge.
The bridge over the Miners River is nearing the end of its lifespan. The Federal Highway Administration has called for a full replacement of the bridge, citing declining structural integrity.
Existing barriers to sea lamprey will remain in Miners River below the bridge. Water quality will be monitored throughout the project to minimize impacts on natural resources.
