Petrified Forest—The cultural demonstrator program provides local artisans opportunities to share history and traditional crafts in the dynamic setting of Petrified Forest National Park, promoting awareness and appreciation of diverse history and culture of the region.
Cultural demonstrations occur at Painted Desert Inn (two miles into the park from the north entrance), 10 am-4 pm, on the following days in April and May:
Friday April 18: Jimmy Yawakia—Zuni Fetish Carver
Saturday April 19: Teddy and Rebecca Goodluck—Navajo Silversmiths
Sunday April 20: Alberta and Weaver Selina—Hopi Basketry and Silversmithing
Friday April 25: Justin Morris—Navajo Silversmith
Saturday April 26: Teddy and Rebecca Goodluck—Navajo Silversmiths
Sunday April 27: Justin Morris—Navajo Silversmith
Saturday May 3: Jimmy Yawakia—Zuni Fetish Carver and Eileen Yatsattie—Zuni Potter
Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11: Justin Morris—Navajo Silversmith
Friday and Saturday, May 30-31: Floyd Lomakayuaya—Hopi Silversmith
All are welcome, and these demonstrations are wheelchair accessible. Normal fees ($10 per private vehicle) apply to enter the park.
