CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on the possible development of a beach management plan at Padre Island National Seashore. The NPS will be accepting public input from February 10 – March 14, 2023.

Established in 1968, the national seashore does not have management plans to provide guidance on beach management activities such as sand management; marine debris removal; beach driving; hurricane and storm recovery; or the management of special-status species such as migratory birds and sea turtles.

The public is invited to join any of three in-person, open house listening sessions to provide feedback about beach management at the seashore. Two meetings will be held at the Texas State Aquarium, 2710 N. Shoreline Boulevard, Corpus Christi, Texas 78402 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21 and Wednesday, February 22, 2023. The third meeting will be held at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Mission San José, 6701 San José Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78214 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Written comments will be accepted electronically (the preferred method) at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/Padre_beach_comments, hand delivered to the Malaquite Visitor Center or via mail delivered to Padre Island National Seashore Superintendent, Attn: Beach Management, P.O. Box 181300, Corpus Christi, Texas 78480 or during the open house.

Public participation is an important element of any planning process. The NPS welcomes the public’s ideas, concerns, suggestions, and potential topics for conversation.

Commenters should be aware that their entire comment, including personal identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time. While commentors may ask that their identifying information be withheld from public view, the NPS cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
