Date: December 10, 2014 Navajo National Monument Visitor Center to Temporarily Close
Shonto, AZ –The Visitor Center at Navajo National Monument will be temporarily closed for the scheduled abatement of safely encapsulated asbestos containing material, by licensed abatement professionals, December 16 -31, 2014.
While the encapsulated asbestos material being removed does not present a health hazard to the public or park staff in its present state, it will be professionally removed by licensed asbestos abatement professionals.
The Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprises store, and Western National Parks Association bookstore, will be closed. Restrooms at the park will remain open.
Weather permitting; the trail to the Betatakin overlook will be open. Please use caution on trails, which can be icy this time of year.
Park staff will be available at the front or near the visitor center to assist visitors and provide brochures and other information.
