Free Admission to All Events Morristown, NJ –The National Park Service at Morristown National Historical Park (NHP) is proud to partner with Morris County to offer Revolutionary Times, a weekend of patriotic 4th of July activities. This year, in addition to celebrating the country's independence, the free events also will salute the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and the 200th anniversary of the Trustees of the Morristown Green. The schedule of events spans July 2nd to July 4th, during which Morristown NHP will waive its admission fee at Washington's Headquarters to honor the NPS Centennial and the July 4th holiday. Saturday, July 2nd *10:00 a.m.: The Hanover Township Landmark Commission kicks off the weekend with a tour of its 1718 Whippany Burying Yard located on Route 10 East in Whippany. The one-hour tour will highlight the people who first settled Morris County and are buried in the cemetery. Pre-register by calling 973-631-5151 and leave your name, phone number, and the number in your party. For the tour, please park your car at 301 Route 10 East. *9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Washington's Headquarters at Morristown NHP will be open to the public with a special National Park centennial exhibit in the Washington's Headquarters Museum and tours of the Ford Mansion offered. Sunday, July 3rd *Throughout the day, Morristown NHP will host a Revolutionary War encampment at its Washington's Headquarters area. Costumed reenactors will be on hand demonstrating a soldier's life in the Continental Army. *9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Washington's Headquarters at Morristown NHP will be open to the public with a special National Park centennial exhibit in the Washington's Headquarters Museum and tours of the Ford Mansion offered. *1:00 p.m.: Morristown NHP welcomes the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps for a lawn concert. Bring blankets and chairs. Rain location will be on-site in the Washington's Headquarters Museum auditorium. *9:15 p.m.: Fireworks presented by the Morris County Park Commission, the Morris County Tourism Bureau and The Town of Morristown. Central Park of Morris County, off West Hanover Avenue in Morris Plains-Parsippany. Parking is limited and early arrival and carpooling is recommended.Central Park of Morris County will be open for picnicking beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 4th *11:00 a.m.: Events begin at Morristown NHP's Washington's Headquarters area where Continental Army reenactors will march to the Morristown Green. The public is invited to fall in and march with them. *Noon: Family activities commence on the Morristown Green. *12:30 p.m.:Morristown NHP park rangers Eric Olsen and Tom Winslow will present on the Morristown Green the colorful, annual reading of the Declaration of Independence, a long-standing Morris County tradition. *Following the reading there will be a musket salute and free guided tours of the Presbyterian Church of Morristown and its Colonial-era graveyard. All events on the Green are rain or shine. In case of rain the reading will be held indoors at the Presbyterian Church, 57 East Park Place, Morristown.
