National Historic Site to Host Virtual National Park Week Events

KINDERHOOK, NEW YORK – National Park Week is going virtual at Martin Van Buren National Historic Site! Join us for a variety of special programs and activities from Saturday, April 18 through Sunday, April 26.

In addition to highlighting some of our favorite partners and programs, we will be posting activities your whole family can do from home throughout the week. We will also be chatting with park rangers across the service about their parks’ stories during our Coffee with a Ranger Facebook series. Virtual visitors will have the opportunity to ask their own questions and post their own experiences on twitter and Instagram. Saturday, April 18: National Junior Ranger Day

 

• Social Media Challenge: History Haiku (all platforms)

Using the information you learned from our at-home Junior Ranger program, write a history Haiku and post it on social media  
 

• At-Home Activity: National Park Service Rangers: Preservationists of “Forever Moments” (all platforms)

Learn more about what park rangers do, how they do historical research, and why they love their jobs. 
 

• 8-9 pm: Ask a Ranger: Join us on Twitter to chat about the history of park rangers

Sunday, April 19: VIP (Volunteers In Parks) Day

Monday, April 20: Military Monday

Tuesday, April 21: Transportation Tuesday

• Instagram Challenge: Post a photo of a road or transportation route that means something to you and why. Tag it with #TransportationTuesday

• 3 pm: At-Home Activity: A Trip Around the World Without Leaving Home (all platforms)

"Visit" the seven continents to learn about different climate challenges facing the world and how you can help!

• All-Day Spotlight: Veterans Art Program (all platforms)

• Instagram Challenge: Share your experiences of solace and healing in national parks with an image and quote, poem, or phrase that best represents your experience. Tag it with #ParkRX

Sunday, April 26: Bark Ranger Day

• 9 am: Coffee with a Ranger on Facebook (with special Bark Ranger guest host)
