Billings Farm & Museum

Arriving by Car

Parking for Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is at Billings Farm & Museum, just off Route 12, approximately ½ mile north of Woodstock Village.

From Woodstock Village:

  • Cross the iron bridge
  • Drive past the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller entrance sign on your left
  • Turn right onto Old River Road
  • The Billings Farm Visitor Center parking lot will be immediately on your right

Parking Options at Billings Farm & Museum

There are two free parking lots:

  • Main Lot – Located immediately after turning onto Old River Road, adjacent to the Billings Farm Visitor Center
  • RV/Overflow Lot (Staff and Permit Group Parking) – Located across the street (left after turning onto Old River Road), suitable for larger vehicles and buses

Entering the National Park on Foot

To walk to Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park from the main lot:

  1. Take the paved path next to the flagpole, to the right of the Billings Farm Visitor Center
  2. Cross Elm Street at the crosswalk
  3. Pass the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller entrance sign
  4. Take the left fork in the path
  5. Walk up the short, steep hill to reach the Carriage Barn Visitor Center.

Carriage Barn Visitor Center Hours

  • Open Thursday–Monday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m (Closed Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • Open Season: Memorial Day Weekend – October 31
  • No entrance fee is required to enter the park

Accessibility

  • Limited accessible parking (no placard required) is available behind the mansion for visitors unable to walk up the steep hill
  • Follow accessible parking signs starting at the Elm Street crosswalk
  • On busy days and during special events, an electric cart shuttle is available to transport visitors from the Billings Farm Visitor Center to the park entrance

Arriving by RV, Bus, or Trailer

The RV/Overflow Lot is located directly across from the main visitor parking lot.
When entering from Route 12, follow signage to turn left into the RV/Overflow Lot (instead of turning right into the main lot).


Driving Directions

From the West (Albany, NY):

  • Take Interstate 87, Exit 20 for Route 149 (Fort Ann/Whitehall)
  • Follow Route 149 for 13 miles to Route 4 East
  • Continue on Route 4 through Rutland and Killington to Woodstock
  • Turn left onto Route 12 North, bear right after the iron bridge, and continue ¼ mile
  • Park at Billings Farm & Museum, then follow the paved path to the park entrance

From All Other Directions:

  • Take Interstate 89, Exit 1
  • Follow Route 4 West for about 13 miles through Quechee and Taftsville to Woodstock
  • Turn right onto Route 12 North, bear right after the iron bridge, and continue ¼ mile
  • Park at Billings Farm & Museum, then follow the paved path to the park entrance

Arriving by Plane

The three closest major airports are:

  • Burlington, VT – 95 miles
  • Manchester, NH – 97 miles
  • Boston, MA – 143 miles

Regional airports:

  • Rutland, VT – 37 miles
  • West Lebanon, NH – 16 miles

Bus Service (to Hanover & Lebanon, NH)

Dartmouth Coach offers service from:

  • Boston Logan Airport to Hanover, NH (20 miles) and Lebanon, NH (16 miles)
  • New York City to Hanover and Lebanon, NH
