Temporary Trail Closures Sept. 21 - Oct. 7

Annual Forest Management Operations

Annual forest management operations are scheduled from September 21 through October 7. During this time, there will be temporary trail closures in and around the work areas between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Posted signs at trailheads will alert visitors to the closures and alternative routes will be marked. The Prosper Road parking lot will remain open.

Trails may be closed up to an hour at a time during tree felling. Forest Safety Ambassador will be stationed at trail closures to escort visitors through active logging areas when safe.


The Visitor Center is open daily from 10am to 5pm, May 28 to Oct 31. Guided tours are offered during this time.

Park grounds are open daily, sunrise to sunset. The park's 20 miles of trails & carriage roads are open for hiking, dog-walking (on leash), and equestrian use. Bicycles and motorized vehicles are not permitted on carriage roads or trails. Maps, brochures, the National Park Passport Stamp, and Junior Ranger books are available at the visitor center. Parking in located across the street at Billings Farm and Museum (69 Old River Rd, Woodstock, VT 05091)

Current COVID-19 community level: LOW

Mask requirements are based on the CDC's identified COVID-19 community level, noted above.

  • HIGH: masks are required for everyone indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Indoor areas include, but are not limited to, the park visitor center, mansion, outbuildings, and administrative offices.
  • MEDIUM and LOW: masks are optional indoors.
  • Practice physical distancing by maintaining at least 6 feet (2 m) of distance between you and others.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. If you feel sick, please do not visit the park.
