January 2020: Envisioning Your 20/20 Trail Experience

January: Envisioning Your 20/20 Trail Experience

A new year means new goals and adventures to embark upon. In 2020, how will you find your perfect vision of a trail experience?
  • Kick off 2020 with a clear vision of what your park, program, or partnership hopes to accomplish during the new year. Let’s also invite people to share their own goals of visiting and enjoying the Lewis and Clark Trail.
  • Encourage local businesses to submit nominations to the Lewis and Clark NHT tourism website, www.lewisandclark.travel. The site aggregates user-generated content showcasing things to do and places to visit that have been nominated by residents along the Trail. To get started, go to www.lewisandclark.travel/register.
  • Encourage people to make a resolution about having fun outside, learning something they've always been curious about, or trying a new experience.
  • Discuss the health benefits of parks and trails—both physical and mental—and encourage people to take advantage of the benefits of being in a park and outdoors, including through Healthy Parks Healthy People events.
  • Highlight lesser-known recreational opportunities in your communities through your programs.
  • Encourage people to volunteer and share success stories of your volunteers.
  • Share employee, volunteer, and intern goals for the year, such as tackling a maintenance project or creating a new recreational opportunity for visitors. Maybe have your partnership leaders share a vision for 2020. Remember to provide updates on projects or personal goals throughout the year!

Social Media

All our partners are encouraged to use #LewisandClarkTrail hashtags on trail-related social media posts to continue to inspire everyone to find their personal connections to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
The hashtag #2020ParkVision can also be used in January, and all year, by trail partner parks, programs, partnerships, and visitors to share their 2020 trail experience and updates on meeting their goals.

Members of the Corps of Discovery first arrived at the village of Cahokia (in present day Illinois) on December 7, 1803. While encamped at nearby Wood River into May 1804, Lewis and Clark used the Cahokia Courthouse as a headquarters for collecting information, meeting with territorial leaders, gathering supplies, and corresponding with President Thomas Jefferson. The courthouse greatly facilitated their ability to comprehensively plan the expedition. #LewisandClarkTrail
