MINERAL, CA – Lassen Volcanic National Park will host a free Ski Celebration at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center on Monday, February 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entrance to the park and other national park sites is free in observance of Presidents’ Day. “Lassen has one of the oldest ski histories in the National Park Service.” said Acting Superintendent Martha Crusius. “This event celebrates the past, present, and future of winter recreation in the park.” Winter enthusiasts are invited to share stories over a cup of coffee, bowl of chili, or a chili dog at an outdoor fire pit. Visitors can also enjoy screenings of The Unrideables: Alaska Range, courtesy of Red Bluff Media House, in the visitor center auditorium at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visitors can participate in a ranger-led snowshoe walk on the preceding Saturday and Sunday. The groups walks are offered at 1:30 pm at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center every Saturday and Sunday through April 2; snowshoes are provided. Ranger-led walks are a great way to explore Lassen’s winter landscape. Visitors to the park should be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Check the most recent weather forecast, dress in layers, and carry food and water. Stow a shovel, extra blankets, and tire chains in your vehicle in case unexpected winter road conditions delay your travel. -NPS- Visit us at nps.gov/lavo, facebook.com/LassenNPS, twitter.com/LassenNPS, youtube.com/LassenNPS,instagram.com/LassenNPS |
