MINERAL, CA - Lassen Volcanic National Park entrance fees will be waived during the Presidents Day weekend, February 15-17. “The park is finally beginning to look like winter with the recent storm that brought snow to the park’s higher elevations,” stated Park Superintendent, Darlene M. Koontz. “Snow conditions are favorable for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, but slopes can be icy for backcountry skiers.” There is still a lack of snow in the Manzanita Lake area, so there will be ranger-led walks around the lake on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the walk, please meet at the Loomis Ranger Station located approximately ½ mile from the park’s northwest entrance.
The entrance fee free weekend will be in addition to the fee free National Park Week opening weekend April 19-20, National Park Service 98th birthday on August 25, National Public Lands Day on September 27 and Veteran’s Day on November 11. The fee free dates do not include other fees for camping, reservations and use of concessions.
Visitors traveling to the park should be prepared for cooler temperatures and mountain driving conditions. Carry tire chains in your vehicle from October through May, along with extra food, water, and blankets. For more information, please email the park at email@example.com , call the park at (530) 595-4480 from 8:00 to 4:30, or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/lavo .
