Lassen Volcanic National Park Will Postpone Campground Fee Changes

Park Superintendent, Mary G Martin announced that proposed increases of campground fees for 2006 at three of the park’s eight family campgrounds will be postponed until 2007. “After reviewing the park’s rates, reservation system costs and public comments we decided that to wait another year was in the best interest of the park and the visiting public,” stated Superintendent Martin. Starting summer 2007, rates at Manzanita Lake and Summit Lake North will change from $16 to $18 and Butte Lake will change from $14 to $16 per night. Fees at all other campgrounds are to remain the same. All use fees and campground fees are reviewed on an annual basis. For a complete listing of our fees please visit www.nps.g0v/lav0. As part of future rate setting we are interested in what park users think appropriate fees for entrance and camping are. “We invite the public to give us their thoughts and comments on the fees charged in Lassen Volcanic National Park,” stated Park Superintendent Mary G Martin. Comments can be submitted to the Park directly via email to lavo_information@nps.gov or by mail to: Superintendent, Lassen Volcanic National Park, P.O. Box 100, Mineral, CA 96063. For questions regarding the fee program please contact Brandon Flint at (530) 595-4444, ext. 5103. The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (2004), which replaced the Recreational Fee Demonstration Authority, allows park areas to collect and retain up to 80% of their fees. These fees provide for enhanced visitor enjoyment. Since 1998, an estimated $725 million has been retained by the NPS to accomplish projects such as the rehabilitation of historic structures, improve hiking trails and campgrounds, replacement of aging water and sewer systems, to provide new exhibits and interpretive signs, to provide accessibility to visitors with disabilities, and to protect natural and cultural resources. The new fee rates will provide additional funding to continue these kinds of projects. For more information, please visit the park website www.nps.gov/lavo or contact the Park at (530) 595-4444 or for TDD at (530) 595-3480, Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. -NPS-
