Lassen Volcanic National Park Welcomes Acting Park Superintendent

MINERAL, CA – Lassen Volcanic National Park welcomes Acting Park Superintendent, Martha Crusius, on February 6.  Martha comes to Lassen with a wealth of experience she has gained over the past 33 years of working for the National Park Service (NPS).

Since 2011, she has served as the Pacific West Region’s Park Planning and Environmental Compliance Program Chief, responsible for planning and environmental compliance for the region’s 63 national park sites in California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, as well as conducting studies of potential new national park units throughout the region.

Martha began her NPS career working on planning and community-based conservation projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic States. She has worked in the Pacific West Region since 1989, initially providing conservation assistance to local communities through the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA), and later managing planning projects and supervising planning staff. She also served as Acting Superintendent of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in 2004.

Martha lives with her husband, Tom Lent, in the San Francisco Bay Area; however she is no stranger to winter, having grown up in the upper Midwest. Martha and Tom have a son who has flown the nest and lives in New England. In her free time, Martha enjoys bicycling and hiking with family and friends.
