MINERAL, Calif. - A Chester youth's artwork illustrates the new Lassen Volcanic National Park junior ranger activity booklet. The 17-year-old artist, Audrienne Osborne, was selected from a pool of artists to illustrate the new activity guide.

"Audrienne's colorful and imaginative artwork helps young people connect to our park," said Park Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz. "We are very lucky to have found such a talented artist right in our own backyard."

In coordination with park staff, Osborne produced dozens of unique illustrations for the 16-page activity booklet. The Plumas Charter School senior has contributed nearly 60 volunteer hours during her busy school year.

Aspiring junior rangers use the 16-page booklet to complete a series of activities that will earn them an official junior ranger patch. The activities help young people learn about sustainability, wildlife, recreation, geology, and the hydrothermal features of the park.

Approximately 1,000 young visitors participate in the park's junior ranger program each year. Future junior rangers may access the booklet online at www.nps.gov/lavo/forkids or pick up a copy at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center or Loomis Museum.

Printing of the new junior ranger activities booklet was made possible by a generous grant from the Lassen Association.
