Entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park and all National Park Service sites is free November 11 in celebration of Veterans Day. This marks the last free entrance day in 2018.

“Visitors are invited to enjoy late fall in the park in honor of America’s service men and women,” stated Superintendent Jim Richardson.

Active duty military members and their dependents can receive free entrance to all federal recreation sites year-round with a Military Annual Pass. Passes may be obtained at park entrance stations with proper identification.

Late fall has been unseasonably dry at Lassen Volcanic. The park highway and roads are open and have not yet received snowfall this season. However, this time of year park roads may close at any time due to inclement weather including snow or ice.

The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center has transitioned to winter hours and is open Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lassen Café and Gift is open weekends, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food to enjoy in the fireside dining area. The Loomis Museum is closed for the winter season. Manzanita Lake Campground is open for dry camping until snow closure. The Southwest Walk-in Campground is open year-round. Ranger-led snowshoe walks will occur Saturdays and Sundays, January 5 through March 31, 2019 and are dependent on sufficient snow depth.

This time of year visitors to the park should be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Check the most recent weather forecast, dress in layers, and carry food and water. Stow a shovel, blankets, and tire chains in your vehicle in case unexpected winter road conditions delay your travel.
