Mineral, CA –Lassen Volcanic National Park will celebrate its new Artist-In-Residence program with a special exhibition opening at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center on Friday, August 29. The exhibition will feature seven digital illustrations by Lassen's first Artist-in-Residence (AIR), Melissa Lockwood. "Art is a wonderful way to develop deeper connections to the park –for both artists and art viewers," said Park Superintendent, Darlene M. Koontz. "Lassen's unique landscapes will provide lasting inspiration to many kinds of artists." Ms. Lockwood was instrumental in the development of Lassen's AIR program during her three month residency in the park. Prints of her illustrations will be available at the Lassen Association bookstore; all proceeds support the AIR program.
Ms. Lockwood will present her artwork and discuss her AIR experience at the Lassen Art &Wine Festival on September 27. The event features local artists, wine tasting, and musicians, plus the park entrance fee is waived in celebration of National Public Lands Day.
